One of my first bicycles was a DBS. DBS is a Norwegian initialism which stands for Den Beste Sykkel [translation: The Best Bicycle]. It’s a great name for a bicycle, I’m thinking it might actually be the greatest. At the time DBS was the only bicycle manufactured in Norway. The model name of my DBS was Golden Star, it was orange metallic and it had a hub gear with three settings. I was about eleven years old and, like one should, I went everywhere on my bike.

When I got myself a new bicycle not long ago, I hadn’t had one for quite some time, so I fell hard back in love with this wonder of modern transportation. But my new bike wasn’t a Golden Star. Thinking that this was a pity, I found a guy in Malaysia who sells bicycle decals via the internet, and I bought this one here in the picture — it’s from a Chinese bicycle which is no longer manufactured — and I stripped my new bike of all markings, and attached my new decal. It made me very happy. Not only do I now yet again have a Golden Star: it’s a Super Deluxe, to boot.
